Counseling is a helping process that takes place
in an atmosphere of acceptance, respect, and trust. Counselors
work with people confidentiality to help them understand
themselves, their behaviors, feelings, and relationships.
Sometimes people take it otherwise. We want to make sure
here that Counseling is NOT a crutch for weak people.
Rather, it is a vehicle for strong people who decide to
face their challenges directly rather than continue in
the more frightened and “escape”-oriented
ways that others use to deal with difficulties. The purpose
of counseling is to help people identify their personal
strengths and develop ways to live life more fully. As
a human being we need counseling from our childhood to
old age. Couseling can do miracles for college and school
going boys and girls. This is the time when they are full
of excitement, but many a times students encounter problems
like anxiety/stress, low self confidence, relationship
difficulties, self-defeating behaviors, academic problems,
identity crisis, and decision- making dilemmas that are
not easily resolvable... or, their usual ways of handling
problems which aren't working well for some reasons. They
may have found, for example, that talking to friends or
relatives about their concerns is impossible or unsatisfying.
Counseling is a chance to talk over what is on your mind
with an objective person. S/he can help you learn new
skills and ways of looking at situations, to make you
more capable of solving problems on your own.
